Manatee Appreciation Day — Join the Virtual Event

Every year on the third Wednesday of March, it’s Manatee Appreciation Day, a day dedicated to learning about, appreciating, and helping these gentle giants. Manatees continue to face many threats, from habitat loss to watercraft collisions. Here’s how you can help celebrate and protect manatees this Wednesday, March 25th.

Join the Virtual Event

Throughout the day on Wednesday, Save the Manatee Club is hosting a virtual event, in lieu of in-person events at parks and manatee-viewing sites. Save the Manatee Club will be sharing cute manatee photos, videos, quizzes, contests, and Q&A sessions to promote education and awareness about manatees. Have you ever wondered how far manatees can travel, or where you can spot them IRL? Now’s the time to ask! Visit savethemanatee.org or check out our interactive activities at facebook.com/savethemanateeclub and @adoptamantee on Instagram. You can also find us at twitter.com/savethemanatee, youtube.com/adoptamanatee, and pinterest.com/savethemanateec.

Support Manatee Care During Challenging Times

When wild manatees become sick, injured, or orphaned, they need to be rescued and provided with around-the-clock care. Save the Manatee Club works together with rescue and rehabilitation partner organizations to help provide care for manatees, like treating injuries or bottle-feeding orphaned calves. Unfortunately, constraints from the coronavirus situation challenge these facilities’ ability to provide 24/7 care. You can join Save the Manatee Club by supporting manatee care during these difficult times.

Save the Manatee Club was founded in 1981 by singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett, and former Florida Governor and U.S. Senator, Bob Graham. Today, Save the Manatee Club is the world’s leading manatee conservation organization, with the mission to protect manatees and their aquatic habitat for future generations.
