Exciting news! On May 13th, Annie, one of Save the Manatee Club’s adoptees made a visit to Blue Spring, and she had a little calf with her! Annie came in pregnant to Blue Spring State Park this winter, but when she left for the season, she still had not given birth.

This is the 5th calf for Annie. She delivered her four other calves in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018. There’s no word yet on whether this latest calf is a boy or a girl. Once Annie has a calf, she usually comes back to Blue Spring once in a while – probably to teach the calf the location of the spring. So we hope they make more visits this summer.

Manatee calves depend on their mothers for the first two years of their lives, so remember to give moms and calves space and observe from a distance, and please help educate others to do the same.

We will be reporting on Annie and her new calf, so stay tuned. Click the following link to adopt Annie. Your support makes all our manatee protection efforts possible.
