7th Grader Makes "Charming" Donation for Manatees

7th grader Liesel von Gontard made charm bracelets to benefit manatees.

Recently, Save the Manatee Club received a letter from St. Louis 7th grader Liesel von Gontard. She adopted Merlin from SMC and decided to get actively involved. As part of a school project, Liesel implemented an action plan of her own to help manatees. She sent an informational letter to friends and family asking them to also get involved through a donation to SMC's rescue and research fund. If someone donated at least $25.00, she sent them a handmade charm bracelet with a sea life theme. Liesel was hoping to raise $150.00 for her project. $600.00 later, we can all agree that her project was "wildly" successful.

The restricted rescue and research money funds much needed equipment including manatee rescue boats, research boats, and telemetry gear, rehabilitation for sick and injured manatees, and research projects. This $600.00 will make a difference for manatees.

SMC thanks Liesel for her creative and successful initiative. We also thank all of her friends and family who generously donated in the name of manatee conservation. Two flippers and a tail fluke up for Liesel!

Each year, Save the Manatee Club is able to assist with manatee rescue and rehabilitation efforts because of many generous contributions from people like Liesel. If you would like to make a donation to Save the Manatee Club's Emergency Rescue Fund, please go to our online donation page. Your contribution will be used solely for manatee rescue, rehabilitation, and release.
