This November, watch for actor Kin Shriner (aka Scotty Baldwin on General Hospital) to appear on the TV game show Street Smarts. When he does, he'll be wearing a Save the Manatee Club T-shirt and playing to win for manatees.

In August, Shriner called us to say that he had chosen the Club as his charity organization when he appears on Street Smarts. “I’m originally a Ft. Lauderdale boy,” said Shriner, “and I used to see manatees when I would go skiing in the waterways there. They didn’t have laws then, but they do now. There’s not many manatees left, and I wanted to do what I could to make more people aware of the situation and how they can help protect them.”

The Club made Shriner an honorary adoptive parent of Nick, one of the manatees wintering at Blue Spring State Park. In a recent article for the magazine ABC Soaps in Depth, Shriner discussed the difficulties manatees face as well as the Adopt-A-Manatee program and his adoption of Nick. “He swims north while other ones swim south,” he noted. “And,” he continued, “he’s got a bit of an eye for the lady manatees. I like that he’s a bit of a rogue.” The article on Shriner also featured contact information for people interested in adopting a manatee and joining the Club.

We’d like to give our sincere thanks to Kin for promoting Save the Manatee Club and bringing more awareness to endangered manatees, and we wish him the best of luck on Street Smarts!
