The Detroit Tigers paid a special tribute to Michigan biology teacher Lesley Argiri at a pre-game ceremony during Parrothead Night at Comerica Park on August 6th for her unparalleled commitment to manatee protection.

Lesley organizes the annual Save the Manatee 5K Run/2 Mile Walk every May in Michigan, along with her dedicated students from L’Anse Creuse High School, to help raise public awareness and funds for Florida’s endangered manatees.

“Lesley and her students were so excited to be here,” said Amber Bloem from the Detroit Tigers. “It’s great to see how passionate they are about making a difference for the manatees. Lesley’s fun and just filled with purpose!”

Total donations raised for the Club from the past seven years of 5K races in Michigan is $45,000. Next year’s race is set for May 21st and it starts and finishes inside the Metro Huron-Clinton Metropark in Mt. Clemens.

For more information on the 2011 race, contact Lesley Argiri at largiri1@hotmail.com.
