Temporary New Home for Betsy
The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, one of the top zoos in the nation, has manatee residents, including Betsy from the Club’s adoption program at Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park in Homosassa, Florida. Some of the manatees are scheduled to return back to the wild while Betsy may remain at the Zoo for a longer period of time before being returned to Florida. A press release sent out by the Zoo regarding Betsy's arrival states, “The Cincinnati Zoo is one of two facilities outside of Florida to participate in the USFWS Manatee Rescue, Rehabilitation and Release Program. The Program began in 1973 with the mission of rescuing and rehabilitating distressed and injured Florida manatees. The fundamental purpose of the program is to release these rehabilitated manatees back into their wild habitat.”
Betsy remains in Save the Manatee Club’s adoption program, and existing and new adoptive parents are encouraged to pay her a visit while she’s at the Cincinnati Zoo.
